| Cy Falls recognized in French contest Several Cypress Falls High School students in French foreign language classes were recently recognized for stellar performance on this year’s Le Grand Concours, a national French contest. The following Cypress Falls students ranked among the highest of the 100,699 students who took the exam nationwide, many of whom attend private schools: ranked ninth in French IV; and Sarah Chen ranked 10th in French III. ranked ninth in French IV; and Sarah Chen ranked 10th in French III. The contest is a skills competition for students in drafting, architecture and engineering classes. | Coaches, players featured in Bayou Bowl The Bayou Bowl features some of the top graduating seniors from the Houston area taking on some of the top graduating seniors from Louisiana. As outgoing president of the Greater Houston Football Coaches Association, Jersey Village High School head football coach David Snokhous will serve as the Texas All- Stars head football coach. “It’s a great opportunity and honor for me to represent our district in this All-Star game,” Snokhous said. Snokhous’ entire staff will be comprised of CFISD coaches: Cypress Creek head coach Greg McCaig, offensive coordinator; Jersey Village assistant Jason Holman, defensive coordinator; Jersey Village assistant Sean McAuliffe, defensive ends; Jersey Village assistant Jason Speights, secondary; Jersey Village assistant Greg Higgins, defensive line; Cypress Creek assistant Shaun McDowell, wide receivers; Cypress Creek assistant Trent Faith, running backs; and Cypress Creek assistant Danny Ramsey, offensive line. | Cy-Fair teacher prepares for Tanzania trip Cy-Fair High School English teacher Christie McWilliams recently received a $1,000 Gerald Howard Read International Travel Scholarship to go toward an educator-to-educator professional development trip to Tanzania. Sponsored by Phi Delta Kappa (PDK) International, a professional association for educators, the trip is scheduled for Aug. 2-15, 2008. In addition to visiting primary and secondary schools in the rural city of Arusha, McWilliams and 14 fellow participants accompanying her on the journey will visit special parts of the northern game parks of Tanzania for a safari adventure. According to PDK, Tanzania is working to provide equitable access to high-quality education for boys and girls and universal literacy among women and men, a daunting mission in a country with limited resources. |

| Teachers named Educators of Distinction Each year student members of NSHSS have an opportunity to select the teacher who has made the most significant contribution to their academic career. The teacher must be an outstanding role model and a positive influence, someone who has made a lasting difference in their lives by encouraging them to strive for excellence. Claes Nobel is the chairman of the NSHSS. CFISD’s 2008 winners are: Anthony Bullock, Langham Creek High School; Dr. Pamela Conn, Cypress Creek High School; Sharon DuBose, Jersey Village High School; and Sarah Price, Cypress Springs High School.
